Everything has to be instant gratification in this society

I passed an Apple Store the other morning and saw a line that was at least two hours long.  Every one was spending what little time they are granted in this life time, standing in line waiting for the new Iphone.  This confused me, as I knew that in another few days you would be able to order one online and receive it in a few days.

And yet, there were people willing to give up a couple hours of their life, waiting for something that they didn’t have,  to have just this minute.  Or wait a minute perhaps they did.  Why do people do this? Are we really becoming a world of Instant Gratification?

Is it to show everyone how important they are, that they have something first, like the children in a sandbox wanting the only toy before the other children get it.

Or is it to prove to everyone that they are special? That they can obtain something someone else can’t.

I really don’t get it.  I think about where I want to spend the next two hours and whom I choose  to spend it with.  And I certainly don’t choose to waste it on standing in line.

I hate lines, even in restraunts.  I consider it complete waste of time.  So looking at that line, and seeing it get longer and longer, to obtain something that the 50 people ahead of you are going to own before you do, kind of defeats the purpose of getting it at all.

Does this make sense to anyone other than me?
