The Tall Ship Elissa, a 99-foot-tall, three-masted sailing ship named for a character in Virgil’s epic poem “The Aeneid,” has sailed the world since 1877 and has been subjected to all sorts of rough situations, including a mutiny. The ship is undoubtedly fertile ground for lost souls. Twenty true believers will have the opportunity to make contact with them at “Séance Aboard the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa,” hosted by Sandra Logan, a Houston medium and psychic. The séance will take place in the belly of the ship. “It should be appropriately scary at night with the water whipping on the sides of the boat, and it rocking back and forth, and it is dark, only lit by candlelight,” Logan said in an email.

Logan considers herself a results-oriented medium. Last year, she conducted a séance at the Michael B. Menard House, the former home of one of Galveston’s founders, and General Sam Houston appeared, she said. “He was sitting on a bed with his boots on,” Logan said. “I felt he was very tall, and he had military men sitting in chairs around the bed, and wars were being planned.”

“I WENT TO 3 TOP PSYCHICS” Sandra on Oxygen.com

By: SOWMYA KRISHNAMURTHY

Every psychic has a different method—some use tarot cards for example– but essentially, they tap into supernatural energy. Some psychics say they hear messages, while others visually see things. Mediums also specialize in communicating with people who have died (or “crossed over”) and relaying messages from beyond. Personally, I’ve always been fascinated with the supernatural. Whether it was rocking mood rings, playing Ouija board or attempting magic tricks, mysticism and paranormal activity has intrigued me since childhood. As an adult, I no longer try to fly like David Copperfield but I’ll still scroll through my horoscope on Astrology Zone or The Astro Twins and call my psychic, Sandra Logan, a few times a year.

Psychics exist all over the country—not just New York City and Los Angeles. One of my friends is a radio host in Houston, and she referred me to Sandra Logan. I’ve only spoken to her on the phone but locals can see her in-person too.

Clients: Sandra probably has the most hip hop of clientele of the three. She does monthly appearances on Houston’s Hot Show 95.7 radio and has read for Grammy Award winners Play-N-Skillz (who have produced for the likes of Lil Wayne and Chamillionaire) as well as DJ Crisco Kidd. She’s been featured on Fox, Texas Monthly and New York Times.

The Reading:

Calling Sandra is like talking to your sweet grandma. She has the most adorable Southern accent and always starts the reading by telling me about the weather or something going on in her neck of the woods. Her style is more call-and-response than Thomas. I ask her specific questions and then she answers them. “Does that make sense?” she’ll ask when she gets a specific message, and based on my answer, she’ll either continue to clarify. She’s spiritual and believes in practices like gratitude. I called her once to whine about something and she basically told me to relax and focus on the positives. Sometimes you need that zen check back into reality.

My Predictions: Sandra has read me about five or six times over the past three years. She’s accurately predicted that I would work with a specific TV network and sadly, how a breakup would end (“He doesn’t want to be your friend.”) Like Thomas and Vanessa, she predicts television hosting and marriage in my future and ultimately, she says I’ll live a “fairytale” life. Given the number of frogs I’ve kissed, sounds good to me!

Mind-Blowing Moment: One of Sandra’s strangest predictions was earlier in the year, when she said I’d go to Africa (a continent I’ve never been to) to work with women. Fast forward, I was invited to a music conference in South Africa on the topic of women in entertainment.
